hullo
I go by nimrod on most of the internet, this is basically a bigger bio for my accounts,
About me
Hullo my name (on the internet) is nimrodI'm in the US (specifically Missouri)
Natively i speak English, but I'm learning French. I'm around A2-ish level maybe A1.8.
I have 3 very silly cats, I wanted a leopard gecko a few years ago (hyperfixation) but I got overwhelmed from trying to figure out what the best setup would be, so now I just have an empty 40gl fish tank sitting in my room. I'll likely fill it up and put some fish in it.I'm part of the ADHD club 😎
I have gone through many hyperfixations, My most recent have even coexisted!
right now they're collecting elements, ginkgoes, and astrophotography.Because of trying to learn another language now i find them very interesting. I've made a conlang or two, if any serious conlanger looked at them they'd probably die right at that instant. (I do NOT have time to write a phonetic chart!)
I also find specifically taxonomy just really cool to look at on wikipedia articles.Space is cool, for obvious reasons.(for those who know me irl, you know my real name, do NOT use it in a discord server unless either its full of people who i also know irl, or they are using my name. I don't know why but I like to keep it close to my chest for some reason maybe that'll change in the future)
Maybelle, Otherwise known as Guga. (girl)
Spoink (girl)

Element Collection
I have been collecting these guys since October 2021. Took a little break from March 2022 to August 2023 (Ginkgo hyperfixation mainly) but i've since resumed.I am now nearly finished, 57 elements out of 84 possible (67%!!)Upnext! 10g Germanium and 100mg Bromine ampule! Perhaps even 10g Rhenium bead.I've bought nearly everything from Luciteria
(Ta & V were from United Nuclear)
Most expensive have been The Tungsten 1 inch cube $66, Supercritical Xenon Ampule $65, and The Hafnium 10mm cube $62.The top ten best samples I have in my opinion in no particular order are: The Xenon, Tungsten cube, Uranium, Osmium, Cesium, Mercury, Bismuth, Hafnium cube, Magnesium Cube, Molybdenum cube.
Graphic of what I have, Green means I have it, Red means I don't. Black means it is radioactive and synthetic. which means its very hard to get ahold of.
Physical layout (dw they're kept in bottles all the time except for these progress photos !!!!DO NOT LEAVE YOUR POTASSIUM OUT!!!!)
Highly pressurized Xenon gas, condenses at 16c° here
1g of pure Depleted Uranium. Sealed in an ampule to prevent oxidation.
1in Tungsten & Magnesium cubes
1g Osmium Bead
Ginkgo

Ginkgo1 during August 2023, Still but a wee-lad. Ginkgo2 is visible in the background.
Ginkgo trees are very interesting trees, they have been around since the dinosaurs, and were one of the first extant (still living/ not extinct) seed bearing plants.Ginkgo trees are a part of the Gymnosperm order, a small yet quite varied collection of obscure and odd plants that are remnants of the plants that reigned during the Permian through to the early cretaceous.A Gymnosperm is a primitive seed plant lacking flowers or true fruit, instead producing cones or ovules, Gymnosperms and angiosperms (flowering plants) make up the order spermatophytes (seed plants). any plant that makes seeds, yet no flowers are classified as gymnosperms. when flowering plants evolved, they quickly took over, outcompeting gymnosperms, today only a handful of the original gymnosperms are still alive.Only 1080 species of gymnosperms are still alive compared to the more than 280,000 species of angiosperms (flowering plants)Ginkgophyta contains only one species; Ginkgo Biloba. While there were at least 12 discovered species during the Mesozoic (Triassic-Cretaceous) However over the course of millions of years they withered away and went extinct one by one, Today only one remains. And perhaps G. Biloba would've gone extinct aswell if it weren't for its adoption as a temple tree by China and later Korea and Japan. Today G. Biloba is nearly extinct in the wild, There is one small valley in China discovered relatively not too long ago, where many ginkgoes are growing, but it hasn't been confirmed if this population is truly wild or rather born from domestic trees.
I began my gink-quest Spring 2022. I was reading wikipedia, looking at plant taxonomy (as one does) when I found the Ginkgo, Immediately I knew this was a very cool tree. At the time I did not know just how commonly planted they were, so while fascinated I never thought about trying to grow one. But later I did try and buy seeds to grow, and eventually even bought some, but they never grew :(Now I began scanning the neighborhood/any tree i saw while driving (as a passenger ofc) eventually it even became subconscious. but one day I finally noticed one (mid 2022) and the great thing was that it was very close to my house AND on that little public grass part in between the sidewalk and road of a carwash. So once they started making seeds I went and picked up some, shortly afterwards I found a Fb marketplace listing for some Ginkgo seedlings, and I got 2. you may be thinking these are Ginkgo-1 and 2, but you'd be half-wrong! they were named that yeah sure, but unfortunately the winter of 2022 completely destroyed all my progress on ginking! Squirrels got into my seeds, and all the snow and wetness made the soil of G-1 and G-2 so wet that they rotted and died before they ever awoke for spring. fortunately I had a bit of smartness (just a bit) before the winter and planted 3 seeds in my yard in an obscure corner so they'd be protected from most things. my reasoning being "If i mess up growing these seeds, I'll let nature take its course and grow these backups." and at first I thought they were a failure. I checked on that spot April and May of 2023 with no signs of a ginkgo, I lost hope in the backups. but as i was just walking around my backyard in mid-june I decide to check on that spot, just for fun, THERE'S A SPROUT!!!!!!!!!!!

A day later I dug it up, and potted it, (This is Ginkgo-1.) in the process of digging I discovered that another one of the 3 seeds had sprouted, but wasn't looking good at all, it's radicle was dried out and black at the end (not good) The very base of the radicle coming out of the seed was still white though, so I held out hope, wrapped it in a damp paper towel inside a zip-loc bag and waited about a week. Then I checked on it expecting a lifeless seedling, now slightly moldy, but to my suprise. LIFE!

Turns out it was still alive in the core of the radicle, and a few days after that I planted it in a pot. (This is Ginkgo-2)

Over the next few months they continued to grow and eventually develop bark. The runt that was Ginkgo-2 actually grew into a stronger and taller looking seedling.

Ginkgo-2(left) and Ginkgo-1(right) on Oct. 22 2023 a week or two before leaves dropped.
Then by early november their leaves fell off, and flashbacks to last year kicked in. to play it safe this time I am keeping them in the fridge over the winter for a more controlled enviroment. Recently I checked on them and confirmed that both were still alive by scratching away a bit of bark, still green!Hopefully by spring they wake up...
Astrophotography
I like doing Astrophotography, though I haven't done it in a while because its quite intensive, and not to mention it is miserable during the winter. I don't have amazing equipment, just a telescope, phone, and free software.I have photos of The Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and The Orion Nebula.
